Short Writing Assignment 2
Before writing this assignment I looked up what integrity meant. What I found is: the
quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. While
listening to Mr. Mark McCollum he talked a lot about what integrity is and why it is so
important. The three main things that I found the most interesting about what he said were
the affect of the distance of cash on people, it’s not the company but the individuals who
ultimately should have integrity, and reputation is everything. I truly feel like I learned
from his presentation and he mentioned ideas I had never considered.
One of the ideas Mr. McCollum mentioned that hadn’t crossed my mind is the affect of the
distance from cash. He gave the example of sodas in a refrigerator at a college. He
explained that a researcher placed sodas in a college refrigerator and someone drank them
all but when the researcher placed cash in the refrigerator no one took any cash. He
continued by saying that some people take things and feel like there is nothing wrong with
that but when it comes to stealing cash those same people know it’s wrong. I found this
very interesting because it is true that the less people associate assets with cash, the easier
it is for them to take it. The further people distance themselves from cash, they begin to
feel less regret and remorse about taking things like office supplies from a company.
