Biodiversity: Black Crow, St. Augustine Grass and Spanish Moss
In Picnic Island Park, the biodiversity such as wildlife and plant life is endless. From
wading birds like Wood Stork, White Ibis and Great Blue Heron in the tidal creek. Yellow
Warbler, Eastern Wood-Pewee and other songbird migrants seek food and shelter in the
mangroves and hardwood patches during migration. Picnic Island park is considered an
ecosystem, it is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
Even the smallest or “insignificant” organisms have value to the ecosystem of Picnic Island Park,
and the three unique ones I found in my adventure were the black crow, St. Augustine grass and
Spanish moss. These organisms have adaptations they have evolved to help them survive and
have a better fit for their environment.
