Essay 1 Rough Draft
The indicator for the measurement of income inequality is a Gini coefficient, which ranges from
zero in case of perfect equality to one in case of absolute inequality and intended to represent the
income distribution of national residents. According to the last data about the United State, the
country has the fourth highest income Gini coefficient. This fact proves that income inequality is
one of the challenges on the agenda of the modern society and must be addressed. In the essay
"Rich America, Poor America" by Niall Ferguson the main theme of the article is the gap
between conservative and left political thoughts towards the subject of inequality, to bridge the
gap between them each party must understand that the stakes are just as great for both
movements. Ferguson writes that "True conservative are not complacent about inequality". The
author argues that in order for our economic model to work interests of both parties must be
taken into account. On the one hand, the left believe that raising taxes on the rich would help
narrow the gap between rich and poor. On the other hand, the right consider that simplifying tax
structure and a basic income for everyone are solutions for income inequality. The conservative
cannot ignore the arguments of the left but rather understand their opinions and bring their own
arguments instead of declining the left’s complaints as "class warfare". Ferguson considers that
the right and the left political movements are agreed that income inequality has been growing
during last decades. Conservatives explanation for wading gap much deeper than what the
liberals consider led to income inequality. Since the left’s radical solutions sound hostile to the
right, both political movements have to agree that there is no solutions that would satisfy the

requirements of the democratic and republican parties at the same time, and in this case both
movement need to give up with some ideas toward to fix the gap between the rich and the poor.
While addressing the issue of income inequality there are two different ways the political
parties see decisions to fix the problem. Opinions differ and mostly depend on political
movement. To begin with what left movement Ferguson represents the democratic view on
inequality where the left blame an unfair system that allows the rich to became richer and left
poor lives in poverty. Democratic movements consider that the poor needs the government and
to raise the taxes on a high income and make the rich contribute meaningfully to the internal
redistribution of wealth. Those decisions are focused on protecting poor, making income more
equal and guarantying everyone gets their share. The Democratic party presidential candidates
featured in major polls such a Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders expressed their critical views
