The role of the Supreme Court is to be the final say in all cases that involve laws by
Congress and is considered the highest court. The power of the Supreme Court can be limited by
the legislative and executive branch, but the case decisions by the Supreme Court are extremely
powerful and affects all of us. The Supreme Court is made up of a chief justice and eight
associate justices. Justices are appointed by the president and are approved by the Senate. Their
duty is a lifetime appointment unless they decide to retire or pass away. (Cushman, 2013) My
focus is on two of the supreme court justices, which are Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader
Ginsburg. These two women have greatly influenced law today and made it to where they stand
now through many accomplishments and failures.
Sonia Sotomayor is one of the current Supreme Court justices. She was born on June 25,
