Suppression or Defensive?
The authors of “The Coddling of the American Mind”, Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt,
describe how students amongst universities and colleges are taking offense to many variables in their
environment. The article mentions a case when students have felt emotional distress to the word
“violate” even when used in legal jargon. According to the authors, many people including comedians
and professors believe “too many of them (college students) can’t take a joke.” Important terms like
“microaggressions” and “trigger warnings” popped up a lot in the article to describe how any simple act
