I strongly agree with George Fatheree of Glendale Press and his “SB 277 doesn’t properly
address vaccine issue” opinion. Sb 277 is a law that requires that every child in the State of
California to receive all vaccines as mandated by the lawmakers or they cannot enter
school. Even if a child is missing one vaccine out of all required they will not be able to
attend school. The parent will have to choose between a possibly harmful vaccine or
homeschooling. As a resident of the state where this is the law, I am very opposed to a bill,
that would take choice away from parents. As the writer states, making vaccines
mandatory for attending school, does not protect immuno-compromised kids from getting
these diseases in other places. This law will not protect kids, but will actually harm those
who cannot get an education. One of my favorite ideas of the whole article was that we
should concentrate on vaccine safety and testing kids who might be harmed by them,
before administering every vaccine blindly. Education is a constitutional right and not a
privilege. The state and the drug companies should work harder on making these drugs
safer, so the parents would feel more comfortable vaccinating their kids, instead of using
education as a leverage against a group of people.
