"In “Have a Heart - but Pay Me for It” Pete Du Pont argues that donors should be
compensated for giving their organs to others because in that way the problem of short supply
of organs would be solved and that it would be beneficial to society. He mentions UNOS the
organization which changed their policy that people who need new organs because of alcohol
abuse will not be the priority and the Cleveland clinic which was accused of removing organs
before legally death of people. Du Pont believes that instead of looking for new ideas of
increasing the supply of organs like those above we should compensate donors for their body
parts. But as long it is illegal the only legal way left is altruism but not everyone would give their
organs receiving only happiness of other person. He shows that the economic theory
recognizes that “when demand for a good service is high, its price will be increase until the
supply and demand reach an equilibrium.” To solve the problem people should be permitted to
sell their organs at organs market. That market could work in many ways. Every adult could join
the special organization where people would trade money for organs between each other in
designated groups, donors could get the after-death compensation for their burial or their
