1. The Federal Bureau of Investigations realized that both international and domestic terrorism
were serious national concerns and took several law enforcement measures to deal with these
types of terrorism. They realized that they had failed to properly handle information that could
had helped in the prevention of the 9/11 attacks.
During the reorganization of the FBI, they placed several items on its tip priority list. These
included: protecting the United States from terrorist attacks, protecting the United States
against foreign intelligence operations and espionage, protecting the United States against
cyber based attacks and high technology crimes.
The main improvement that was enacted consisted of a complete restructuring of the
counterterrorism activities of the bureau and a shift from a reactive to a proactive direction.
They also developed special divisions to coordinate both national and international
investigations.
During the restructuring, they also reemphasized on a Joint Terrorism Task Force and a
permanent shift of additional resources to counter terrorism The FBI also enhanced analytical
capabilities with not only personnel but technological improvements. They created a more
mobile, agile and flexible national response unit.
The FBI also recruited agents, analysts, and translators, all with specialized skills and
backgrounds. The FBI implemented the Law Enforcement Online Program which is a conduit for
intelligence information that forms a foundation for the bureau’s information sharing initiative.
2. Joint federal and local task forces involve local, state and federal law enforcement officers
preforming as a team. In such task forces, investigators from local police departments and state
fraud. Their focus in on disrupting the online illicit opioid sales and taking down the criminal
