substances, SUD’s, and what you’ve noticed in your local news.
Substance Use Disorder and Substance Abuse are among some of the terms that are not
clearly defined and are sometimes used interchangeably when, realistically, should be separately
distinguished for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Doweiko (2019) stated that substance use "is
considered a normal learned behavior that falls on a continuum ranging from patterns of little use
and few problems to excessive use and dependence." For example, A cup of coffee each morning
is acceptable, but those who consume an excess amount may experience mood problems and
adverse health effects. Excessive use may lead to significant impairment or distress in one's
functionality. On the other hand, Doweiko (2019) mentioned that "substance abuse is when an
