Both Delany’s “Lumbar Thought” and “Shoes for thought” contain sometimes most
surprising thoughts about whatever style might be. I have always considered that such a common
word as style does not have much to do with the glossy magazines, with haute couture or
astounding pieces of architecture. I do know persons that will throw incredulous glances at those
calling themselves chefs of style, although even cuisine could not have left behind such a
precious concept.
In “Lumbar thought”, the example of jeans wearing is captivating and so is the way it can
supposedly modulate and alter the wearers behavior. As a consequence, this results in a change
of habits, postures, and implicitly to a change in the way the person is perceived. Studied or not,
the attributes such as: casual, scruffy, nosy or congenial, will many times betray an association
