Store brands have given brand names a run for their money for as long as I can remember.
Why would I pay more for the same item if I can get the store brand for cheaper? Most
stores now have put the common household items and food under their own name giving
the consumer a better value along with reducing the options for the customers.
According to Boone in Contemporary business major brands such as Target, CVS and
Walgreens have switched to using a private label to cut down on the number of brands that
are on the shelf and according to Boone it has work out making their numbers boom on
private labeled items.
The store carries the name brands along with the store brands. I believe this is to give the
customers that come in for the name brand, that don’t mind paying a little more what they
want and by providing the store brand they are targeting the shopper that wants the best
value. By keeping both items on the shelf the stores can hit both customers easily.
According to Boone in Contemporary Business private labeled items have outgrown
names brands. The consumer has shifted their buying habits and now are looking for the
