This assignment is an Individual report.
You must use font Calibri size 12, set number of the pages and use multiple line
spacing at 1.5. Margins must be: left: 1.25 cm; right: 1 cm; top: 1 cm and bottom: 1
cm.
You should use in text references and a list of all cited sources at the end of the essay
by applying Harvard referencing style.
The recommended word limit is 2000-2500 words (+/-10%), excluding the tables,
graphs, diagrams, appendixes and references. You will not be penalized for exceeding
the total word limit.
The cover page of the report has to be the Assignment front sheet 1 (to be attached with
this assignment brief).

Your company is planning to improve the decision making and the information management
through statistical methods. You are acting as a Research Analyst. You are required to
demonstrate your understanding by evaluating and analysing the business data through
variable statistics methods.
Structure of the Report:
General introduction: main purposes and structure of the work.
Main contents of the report:
1. Evaluate the nature and process of business and economic data/information from a
range of different published sources. In specific:
Define data, information and knowledge.
Through a specific example from published sources, you should show how data can be
turned into information and information into knowledge.
2. Evaluate data from a variety of sources using different methods of analysis. In specific:
Interpreting data from a variety of sources using different methods of analysis:
descriptive, exploratory and confirmatory.
You should demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of every analysis method
through your above examples.
Using an academic article, critically evaluate the differences in application between
methods of descriptive, exploratory and confirmatory analysis of business and
economic data.
3. Analyse and evaluate qualitative and quantitative raw business data from a range of
examples using appropriate statistical methods. In specific:
Identify the differences between qualitative and quantitative raw data analysis.
In inferential statistics, you should show the differences between population and
sample. List all different sampling techniques and methods.
From a quantitative raw business data, perform the descriptive statistics for this
dataset. In particular, you should show the measures of central tendency (e.g. mean,
median, mode) and the measures of variability (e.g. range, standard deviation,
variance). You also should use an appropriate graph and the correlation concept to
measure association between two variables in your business data. Interpret the
association into a meaningful business message.
Through your above analysis, evaluate the differences in application between
descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and measuring association.
