PRELIMINARIES: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE
About the course:
This course generally deals with concepts in Inferential Statistics and its application in business research and development. This
course provides student the concepts about the different statistical tools such as confidence interval, t-test and ANOVA, regression and
correlation analysis, non-parametric test, selected multivariate tests, and SEM. This course specifically equips students about the what,
the when, the why, and the how these stated statistical tools are being used in business research. Also, the use of computer in analyzing
data is offered in this course.
Course requirement:
This semester is divided into two terms, the midterm, and the final term. The duration of the semesters is 18 weeks, 9 weeks
each term. You are expected to answer all the enabling and summative assessment with in the prescribe allowable period. Also, you are
expected to perform all the indicated laboratory activities in the module following specific instructions. Your grade will be computed
using the formula below:
Enabling Assessment: 30%
Summative Assessment: 30%
Laboratory activities: 40%
Total: 100%
Take note enabling or summative assessment maybe in a any form such as quizzes, comprehensive exam, or output.

Module Guide and Tips for our Class
This course is offered via a modular approach where each chapter is delivered as a module. There are 7 modules for this course,
namely Module 1 – Introduction, Module 2 Descriptive Statistics, Module 3 – Estimation, Module 4 – Hypothesis Testing, Module 5
Non-parametric Statistics, Module 6 Regression and Correlation Analysis, and Module 7 Multivariate Analysis. The modules are
composed of the following components:
Content Overview and Presentation This part gives a brief background and discusses the significance of the lesson. This also
gives an introduction about the content and topics that will be covered in the module.
Learning Outcomes This part lays down the skills or competencies students are expected to attain after engaging in the lesson
and learning activities.
Learning Activities This part contains the discussion of lessons, solved examples and illustrations. You must study them as
these shall be your guide towards understanding the topics and enable you to acquire the knowledge and skills proficiency needed
for the subject. This also contains individual activities such as surveys and essays, practice exercises with final answers found at
the appendices, that you can work to determine if you understood the lesson and prepare you for enabling activities and

required to answer and submit these assessments as they are part of the course requirements and shall form part of your grade.
Summative Assessment This part may come after a module or two or even after partially covered modules. These are meant
for the learning competencies you are acquired after taking the module. This is a course requirement and an integral part of your
grade.
