State of Mind/Body
Over the past few months I have experienced quite an unfortunate series of events. These
include my health and stability as a person. These said events helped me see the reality of
how truly important it is to take care of myself and always keep track of what I eat and do
in a day.
I remember always having presentations in school about how important is is to do self
checks regarding breast cancer and to make sure to talk to others about any questions I
may have. These presentations always stuck in my head and I became a very paranoid
person. I believe that the fact that I watch the tv drama Grey’s Anatomy also had a huge
impact. The show is about a hospital where a bunch of patient cases appear; tumors in all
parts of the body are normal things seen in almost every episode of the show. This added to
my paranoia and made me even more scared of the concept of cancer. In my family I had
an aunt from my dad’s side that passed away and another who thankfully survived breast
cancer.
As my paranoia became greater I got worried; one morning I felt heavy and asked my
mom “Mom could I please go get checked at the hospital so I can stop worrying?’
I kept telling her my chest was hurting and she got worried for me; she wanted to make
sure I was okay to and help eliminate my fears.
