Georgia State Accreditation for Private, Public and Charter Schools Leadership office holders
While the Georgia Professional Standards Commission or GaPSC, controls the requirements for
certification. The state of Georgia is setup in three different ways. There’s the Private schools, Public
schools and state Charter Schools System.
Private Schools Higher Leadership certification in GA, is a on a huge scale as to what you are certified in
and not certified in. Mostly it is based on which accreditation agencies the schools are using. They
currently have six that is mainly recognized by colleges to accept that a student has completed high
school, and has an acceptable accredited Diploma. The main Accreditation agencies are SAIS, AdvancEd
(often referred to as SACS), and the Georgia Association of Christian Schools (GACS). Each one has their
own required as to who the school leadership should have as far as certification, for principals and
teachers.
Public Schools Higher Leadership offers a straight across the board educational leadership licensure. This
is an entry level certification for teachers transitioning to principle, or leadership position. Because it is a
requirement to have at least 3 years of teaching and experience, at lot of the job is showing that the
teacher can transition into the more leadership and mentoring role for the school as a Principle. At the
end of this evaluation period, they’re enter into the more critical part of being observations and scored
on their performance. At this point they would have tested and certified by GaPSC in leadership with a
certification.
Charter Schools Higher Leaderships certification and requirements are slightly different in Georgia based
on school County. Some don’t even require a Doctorate degree, but more of the certification of GaPSC ,

Academy.
“Educational Level: Master Degree in Educational Leadership, Specialist Degree in Educational
Leadership preferred. Certification/License Required: GA Educational Leadership Certificate, Level 5 or
