There are several ways to save money for UGA’s Men’s Lacrosse team. The team
currently uses the UGA Club Sport Complex for games and shares it with other club teams for
practices so we wouldn’t need to worry about building a new stadium or practice facility. The
team currently does not have an official sponsor so another way we could save money is to get a
big-name sponsor to help with the costs of new uniforms, equipment, and other additional
expenses. Traveling can be very expensive, especially to different regions outside of the state so
another way we could save money is to reduce travel costs in a couple of ways. We would need
to increase the amount of home games to decrease the amount of travel costs, and also schedule
closer away games to decrease the amount of hotel costs and transportation
There are some benefits of having lacrosse in Georgia. The sport has been expanding in
the state of Georgia in youth, high-school, and at collegiate levels over the past 10 years (King,
2012). Lacrosse is also considered one of the fastest growing NCAA sports. For example, more
than 35,000 players competed on varsity, club, and junior colleges in 2013 (“National Lacrosse
Tops 72,000,” 2015). The sport is also making huge strides in the south, especially in the metro
Atlanta area (Corso, 2015). The Atlanta Blaze and the Georgia Swarm are to new professional
lacrosse teams that came to Atlanta in 2016. The Atlanta Blaze is a Major League Lacrosse
(MLL) team that have expanded their franchise and have used Kennesaw State University’s Fifth
Third Stadium to host most of their games as well as the MLL championship (Corso, 2015). The
Georgia Swarm is a National Lacrosse League (NLL) team that relocated from Minnesota and
plays most of their games at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, GA (Corso, 2015).
