Joseph Hwang’s career with sports wasn’t something he had always planned on and
worked towards. The Senior Manager of Fan Development and Marketing for the Anaheim
Ducks first got his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California
San Diego in 2001. The University of California San Diego is known as one of the world’s top 15
research schools, and while there, Hwang was involved with the Society of Hispanic
Professional Engineers. With that degree, he worked for Logic Devices for one and a half years
working on a team that was designing a circuit used in high definition televisions.
In March of 2002 his career took a turn towards sports when he became a buyer for
Just Sports USA. His job there was to purchase inventory for 20 east coast stores based on
“market preferences, customer purchase habits, and the daily changes in the sports landscape”
(Hwang, n.d.). After a year and four months there, Joseph Hwang decided to get his Masters of
Business Administration, Marketing, and Management from California State University
