Trying to explain what it’s like to kill a deer to someone who
never has killed a deer they will probably look at you like you
are a crazy person. But once you have harvested your first kill,
had the opportunity to take down such a magnificent creature
and been given the privilege to feed it to your loved ones, you
will understand. Bringing home, the bacon is a lot more fun
than buying it. Today I will be talking about why hunting is good
and is heathier for you. Ever since I can remember I’ve been
hunting. I grew up learning how to hunt by my dad starting at
the age of 6. Everyone loves food do they not? Why not eat
something that is good for you and tastes even better.
Everyone has a hobby such as gaming, art, hiking, baking or
traveling. One of my favorite hobbies is hunting because it gives
me food and lets me connect with nature. Hunting has been
around for about 1.9 million years and has had economic,
wildlife and health benefits.
Firstly, there are many economic benefits that come with
hunting. A. Each year, hunters pour money into their local
economies as they purchase new weapons, blinds, attractants,
gasoline, lodging and other hunting equipment. According to
the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service 2006 National Survey of Fishing,
Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation, hunters in the
state of Virginia spent more than $480 million in trip-related
and equipment expenses. Enacted more than 50 years ago, the
Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act allows the federal
government to tax all firearm and ammunition purchases.
According to Hunting Benefits on The Environment “This money
is then used for wildlife conservation across the United States.
Hundreds of thousands of acres have been purchased and
protected by the U.S. government as a result of this taxing,
which is used for hiking, camping, fishing and other forms of
recreation” (Outdoar 2019). Hunting deer also prevents them
from destroying crops, decreases the number of roadway
accidents and decreases overgrazing in sensitive habitats that
support a variety of animal species. Each tagged deer will
provide approximately 50 pounds of fresh venison, making
hunting a much cheaper way to obtain meat for families.
