Space Matrix
The Strategic Position and Action Matrix, also known as the Space Matrix, is a matching
tool that uses two different axes and four quadrants to identify whether an aggressive,
conservative, defensive, or competitive strategic approach is necessary for a given organization
(David et. al, 2020). The axes represent two internal dimensions; Financial Position (FP) and the
Competitive Position (CP) as well as two external dimensions; the Stability Position (SP) and
Industry Position (IP) (David et. al, 2020).
Financial Position (FP) key factors include: ROI, ROE, Liquidity, Capital, EPS, etc.
Competitive Position (CP) key factors include: Market share, Product quality, Global presence,
customer loyalty, reputation, etc.
