Introduction:
Southwest Airlines is known to being a pioneer in the flying industry and continue to succeed by
their competition . There has been many challenges that Southwest Airlines has faced with it being
hardship and financial problems. “In late 1996, Rollin King, a San Antonio entrepreneur who owned a
small commuter air service, marched into Herb Kelleher’s law office with a plan to start low-cost/low-
fare airline that would shuttle passengers between San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston” (Thompson et al.,
pg.C-311, 2016). It wasn’t until 1971 when Southwest first introduced their first flights that was mostly
done between cities in Texas. The company would first struggle and was difficult to get their foot in the
market. Southwest Airlines name was first adopted in 1971 and the company was able to offer low-fare
flights which were on a Boeing 737 aircraft which gave the company an advantage for being an aircraft
