Statement Of Purpose
About two years back, my father looked at the broken supply chain industry of India and decided to start
a logistics company of his own. However, a few months into the business as true for most of the
ventures, things didn’t turn out to be the way as planned. Clients were hard to come by and the biggest
problem was visibility on operations. Ever-changing industry meant clients demanded greater visibility
and state of the art supply chain partners and not just plain vanilla logistics company. Moved by this
unsettling disparity and motivated by my aspirations and analytical mindset, I decided to join the
venture full time and devote myself in changing the scenario.
Currently, the logistics industry is marred by a lack of visibility and control over drivers. Lack of visibility
impacts business operations and KPIs further accentuated by unpredictable demands during peak
periods and it was in this direction I decided to make interventions. With every activity generating
multiple data points it was necessary to devise extremely scalable data storage architectures to
generate meaningful insights.
As an in-house senior consultant, my first task was to deep dive into our existing client base. I
categorically mapped all our clients based on repeat business, their route margins, payment cycles, and
several other parameters. As a result of this exercise I flushed out couple of big clients with sporadic
payment cycle leading to cash flow stress for the firm.
Mapping data related to overhead expenses helped us identify the reasons that attributed to the
additional expenses the company borne whether it was an accident due to a mechanical fault or driver’s
