A soldier is a man or woman who fights for their country while giving up their own life. To me, a
soldier is a true hero, one who can put someone else’s life and safety before his or her own. Last week,
we went to the exhibit in the Visceglia Gallery where we saw a variety of soldier’s artworks. But this
exhibit was different from any other, here the material in which these soldiers used are from different
from normal everyday painters. Thanks to the Printmaking Center of New Jersey, combat paper is
available for men and woman in all services. Combat paper is old solider uniforms which is compressed
down and made into paper. And in every single artwork you won’t only see their hard work in the piece,
but also you can feel or imagine the warriors sweat, blood, tears, dirt, and all the hardships in which
they all went through.
Out of all the art pieces, two caught my eye, one was by David Keefe (Marines – Iraq), called
Rasul, and the second one was by Laura Lopez (Army – Iraq) called Invisible Soldier. I picked these two
because these two stood out most to me. The first one which was Rasul which shows a soldier handing
something to a little boy, it’s not completely clear on what it may be but you can suspect that the soldier
is handing the boy a small toy or a sign of safety. You can inference that the little boy knows that he and
