This course focuses on information technology project management. It will provide
information technology students skills with an understanding of the theory and practice of
project management through an integrated view of the concepts, skills tools and techniques
involved in the management of information systems development projects
While IT projects are similar to other types of projects, they pose unique challenges for the
managers and organizations that undertake them. Upon completion of the course, students
should be able to:
Justify an IT project by establishing a business case
Develop a project charter
Develop a work breakdown structure for an IT project
Estimate task durations and assign resources
Establish task interdependencies
Draw and analyze a network diagram.
Identify IT project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies

The triple constraint of project management
The project management knowledge areas and process groups
The project life cycle
Tools and techniques of project management, such as:
Project selection methods

Network diagrams, critical path analysis, and critical chain scheduling
Cost estimates
Earned value management
Motivation theory and team building
3. Apply project management concepts by working on a group project as a project manager
or active team member.
5. Use knowledge and skills developed in this class in other settings.
