As people we are naturally attracted to specific groups and social structures. We are
especially enamored if that group fits the type of person that we aspire to be. From observations
people try to find a status that often represents the opposite of themselves. This is because the
status that they are born into or even really connected with doesn’t fit the status they wish to be
apart of. An example of this is someone purchasing designer clothes when they cant really afford
to; this is status inconsistent and role conflict because they look good but don’t have the funds.
Have status symbols dominated the way in which we live? Do we surround our entire lives
around these status in order to obtain our place? Yes, first because we find the statue we want to
be apart of and allow components to determine how we preform, next we recognize our status set
and work hard to use front and back stage to prepare for our roles and lastly we allow certain
social institutions to also influence how we live.
