Freedom is a concept that today’s society is ignorant toward: sociology brings this
ignorance to life. Freedom is a concept which many people believe present day society has
however, ccontrary to popular belief, social control is silently dominating the current generation.
Berger states, “There is no way of perceiving freedom, either in oneself or in another human
being, except through a subjective inner certainty that dissolves as soon as it is attacked with the
tools of scientific analysis” (Berger, 124). Sociology focuses on the behaviour and actions of
humans, and the concept of freedom intertwines with concerns of social institutions controlling
