Societal Roles of Men and Women 2
Societal Roles of Men and Women
Introduction
Societal roles of men and women have changed drastically in the last 95 years. In
the past, men were considered to be the breadwinners of their families, while the women
would stay at home taking care of the children and keeping the house in order. In the
play, A Doll’s House, which was written at the beginning of the women’s rights
movement, questioned the woman’s role in the home (Templeton, 1989). At the end of
the play we see Nora, leave her home, her husband and children behind. At that time this
was completely unacceptable.
