Emile Durkheim, “Father of Functionalism, was born April 15, 1858 in Epinal, Lorraine.
His father, grandfather and great-grandfather were Rabbis but Durkheim broke from Judaism and
became agnostic [ CITATION Jones85 \l 1033 ]. Durkheim was an outstanding student and a
well-known sociologist. He created the first university position in sociology in France and
provided a great deal of the fundamental concepts and methods of sociology [ CITATION
