If you saw a teen digging food out of the garbage, being raped or living in the mountains
in a tent, would you be ok with that? Most people would say no, with a reaction of who would be
ok with something like that? Yet, the majority of the population does nothing to prevent youth
homelessness due to stigmas. Instead stigmas are made such as: they must be drug addicts, lazy,
or rebellious and that’s why they ended up on the streets. This is simply not true. As a social
worker, I believe ending youth homelessness is possible through awareness and investment,
which will lead to a healthier society.
In order to begin this fight, we need to increase awareness so more resources can become
available. The reason for youth are homeless is not because their all drug addicts or rebellious
