Social Mobility
Social Mobility has been a problem for years in the United States. In the United States,
government officials have tried their best to keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor. Since the
beginning of time, the elite has made it hard for a class to move up in this place that the
American people, “warm-heartedly” call the "land of opportunity." The United States is the most
highly stratified society of the industrialized world. Class distinctions are present in virtually
every aspect of our lives. Class determines the place a person will work, the amount or quality of
their education, and the health of the people we love. The truth of this circumstance is that the
United States is not as, "open" the same number of individuals might want to think it is, implying
that social portability, or the development between classes, is not so natural as we may accept.
This is caused by the numerous social issues for example, sexual orientation, race, and
economically filling in as boundaries that piece people away from going upward through the
classes. While some people do give up certain opportunity or materials to be success, it is really
the society that we live that hinder social mobility and that is how American culture displays it.
The more educated you are the better you are with making decision that looks
ahead to the future. In What’s Killing Poor White Women, researchers had known that education
was the common denominator for longer and better life (Potts, 596). With regards to advanced
education, the measure of money your family have is significantly more basic than scholarly

potential, and advanced education is a key to social mobility. In any case, the imbalances begin
far sooner than the eighth grade. Children from lower salary families are around 20 percent less
inclined to go to pre-primary school than those from middle pay families. Education makes a
difference. Of the adults who grew up in low-income families, some received college degrees.
Only 16 percent stayed in the lowest income bracket. Of the adults who started in the lowest
income bracket and failed to earn a college degree, 46 percent stayed there (Friedman). income
mobility, by itself, is also incomplete. Imbalance was driven to some extent by the rising pay of
school graduates. The money for college now has expanded by about half from the mid-1980s to
the mid-2000s. As earnings turned out to be more layered by education, education has turned
into more critical focus for more money in the future. Education, as well, may have declined
with rising pay being imbalance in America. School educational cost expanded in the time of the
