Social Media in Business Communications
There is no doubt the business world has changed with the utilization of our
cutting-edge advancements accessible to us today. There are major differences that
come with communications. Even something as recent as a two-year-old phone is
considered obsolete. Businesses now-a-days need to keep up with the advancing
technological world through many methods. Social media has become one of these
methods. Although it was never originally intended for business purposes, it has
become a major outlet for many companies and organizations. Nobody can deny the
large number of people using social media tools for communication and marketing.
As much as 65% of small or local businesses stated that social media helped them
keep connected with their customers. In addition, it is reported that over 50% of
Facebook users under 35 were reported to follow online recommendations for products
or businesses made by friends (Susan Dolan, 2014). Using platforms like Facebook,
Twitter, or Instagram has many benefits in the business world. There are a few ways
that business communication online through social media is evolving. One of these
ways to do so is connections. A lot of companies today will post information on their
products and services using social networks such as Facebook to connect with their
customers. “And it’s not only popular with teenagers and college students — all types of
demographics are now regular users of the social network. According to a recent study
from Nielsen, people are 68 percent more likely to remember seeing an ad with social
context than without. Facebook ads can help you target people from a specific location,
friends of your current fans, or even folks who “like” other pages, among other options
such as location and interests. Plus, it’s a cost-effective way to bring in new traffic you
can set a daily budget, pay for clicks, or pay when people see your ad. Similar to Google
AdWords, you’re piggybacking off of Facebook’s traffic in order to bring those visitors to
your website” (Pozin 2013).
Generally, the people who run the social media pages are responsible for
customer feedback and responding to customers. Some companies will even take a
