I have been two five different high schools in 2 different states and the social issues were the same, teen
pregnancy. I believe this is where an anthropologist can come in and research why teen pregnancy was
so high in all the different cities and counties these high schools were in. Also how teen pregnancy
affects the young students, how it influences other young adults in the school, and the cause and effect
of actually being pregnant body wise at that age. According to Kottak (2015), “Attention to culture also
is fundamental to anthropology and education, a field whose research extends from classrooms into
homes, neighborhoods, and communities” (p.47). An anthropologist can use that research to help a
community program educate the young adults in that community to reduce the risk, help schools with
more effective sexual education, and help neighborhood clinics with tools to reach school nurses and
provide contraceptives.
