Social Conflict in Social Media
Social Conflict is very prominent in teens on social media today. It takes over their
emotions, physical attributes, and their self-esteem altogether. A simple like or comment can
leave a huge effect on people. It is most prominent in teens and young adults. This essay will
discuss the effects it can have on the youth. It will also discuss how far some of these teens and
young adults will go just to achieve multiple likes and/or comments. Not only is social media a
factor for self-esteem, but it can also be dangerous to these younger individuals. Online
predators, fake accounts, and “catfish” are becoming a huge problem on these media sites. It’s
also important to remember that not everything that comes out of social media and the
connections it makes are bad. There are many great uses that this new technology has brought.
“Teens make up the majority of users on social media sites” (Braner 2012.) While not all
of it is necessarily a bad thing, it still consumes a majority of their social life. “Remember being
on a corded phone with one friend, and then having to call other friends individually? This
process has been eliminated as they can all talk to one another online through the use of media
sites such as Facebook” (Braner 2012.) It does take its toll though. Imagine all of these pretty
girls getting hundreds of likes and compliments on their photos, and someone else’s daughter
getting only a handful of likes and compliments. It kills them on the inside even if they aren’t
