While budgeting for the Middle Class, a family of four, two adults and two children total
annual salary is $58,000 a year in Reno, Nevada. Per month, housing would take account of
$953, child care would be $745, debt and payments would be $663, transportation such as car
payments/traveling would $639, savings would account to $642, food would be $573,
insurance/medical is $333, and lastly the miscellaneous expenses would be $282. As for the
Poverty, a family of four, two adults and two children total an annual salary of $25,100 a year in
Reno, Nevada. Rent and housing would be $469, child care is $349, debt and payments would be
$160, transportation such as car payments/traveling would be $270, savings would be $278, food
would be $270, medical/insurance would be $162, and lastly the miscellaneous would be $130.
When budgeting both Middle Class and Poverty families, I came to better understand the
definition of structural strain and the strain theory. The strain theory is emphasized as the theory
that when there is a discrepancy between the cultural goals for success and the means available
