SMARTPHONE APPLICATION
Introduction
A smartphone is a mobile device that most of people commonly carry along with
them and use. Most often, smartphone technology is defined in two ways; “a hand-held
computer capable of multiple function in additions to receiving calls” and as “a mobile
phone offering advanced capabilities like PC” (Aldhaban, 2016). It provides more advanced
utilities and capabilities than what a typical mobile phone used to be. Along with the widely
usage of smartphone, smartphone application has been developed. The smartphone
application is the shortening of the term of smartphone application software. It has been
created for higher productivity and information retrieval such as contacts, email, and
calendar and weather information. Since smartphone application technology has become an
inevitable part of our human lives these days and is widely practiced in different aspects, it
is important to know the basic background of smartphone application as well as its benefits
and issues and problems related to it.
Background
Ecosystem of Smartphone application
There are two biggest different ecosystem of smartphone application; IOS and
Android. IOS has been developed by Apple to provide smartphone application service for
iPhone and iPod. On the other hand, Android is an open source smartphone operating system
that has been developed by Google to provide smartphone applications to smartphones other
than iPhone (Distant, 2012). These two ecosystems contributed to the pervasive use of
smartphone application but are also the root of rising legal and ethical issues involving
smartphone applications.
