4. Kurt Vonnegut was born on, November 11, 1922. He grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He grew up with his parents and graduated from Shortridge Highschool. He majored in
chemistry at first and became an editor for the Cornell Daily Sun. He would later enlist in
the U.S. Army where most of his works and influences would come from. Vonnegut
experienced many things as a soldier in World War ll and he became a prisoner during the
Battle of the Bulge and he was kept in Desden. He became a leader of the POWs but then
later beaten because of potential threats he had said to the German guards. He utilized
many of the scenes and experiences and incorporated it into Slaughterhouse-Five. After he
had been liberated by the Red Army, he went back to schooling. He wrote a novel entitled,
Cat’s Cradle, took some time for the university he attended to accept his work. He worked
with many big magazine companies but then later began Slaughterhouse-Five because of
the great success his previous novel and given. His personal life included many marriages
and divorces, in which seven kids were a result of this. He looked up to Mark Twain so we
also named one of his boys Mark. Vonnegut would write a total of 14 novels in his life
time including, Cat’s Cradle, Player Piano, Jailbird, and Deadeye Dick. Kurt Vonnegut
passed away on April 11, 2007.
