Leadership skills are the competencies and knowledge that a leader possesses and uses to
successfully reach goals and objectives. Katz determined that effective leadership is based on
three types of administrative skills: technical skills, human skills, and conceptual skills. These
skills are significantly different from leaders’ personal traits: Whereas traits define who the
leaders are, skills determine what the leaders are able to accomplish (Northouse, 2018, p. 101).
