Case Study
The first social networking started in 1997. SixDegrees.com thought that the growing of
the Internet and people wanting to know more about it, thought it would be successful. It
failed because many users thought not enough friends were on the website. Also there was
not much to do on the site, besides send and accept friend requests.
The company didn’t do much research for the company to survive. While other companies
came in the market, SixDegrees.com didn’t spend money on technology to become better
and get the customers attention.
The factors that made MySpace more successful was it made the profile visible by any
user which reduced the problem of figuring out whose profiles whose. The MySpace page
could do many things, like write stuff, play music and change backgrounds.
When I had MySpace, I had a main song for my profile and my own background. A user
could look at people profiles and leave comments. You could also show who are your top
friends. It was one of the most popular websites growing up while in middle school.
Facebook became more popular then MySpace around 2010-2011. I Just started high
school and almost everyone had a Facebook. On Facebook, it was more private. You can
block, delete people and choose who can see your profile. Facebook also had it’s own
messaging and writing on walls to communicate with each other. Later own Facebook
started having advertisements and games.
