Significance of Asian Pop Culture in the U.S
My paper seeks to demonstrate how Asian culture has influenced young people in
America. This paper will focus on the effect of Asian Music in North America and
specifically in Los Angeles. To get a depth understanding of the influence of the Asian culture
on American youths, I attended a concert by Hatsune Miku Expo in where a great number of
American youths also attended. My observations have led me to conclude that in the recent
past, Asian pop culture has become popular in America. I will use the article, “Introduction:
Globalization, localization and hybridization: Their impact on our lives.” By Kwok Bun and
my own personal experience to support my claim that the Asian culture especially its pop
culture has become significant in the United States not only with the youth but as a whole.
The internet has personally contributed greatly in my life. I use the internet to look up
important information and also for school work. I also find that the internet is also a good
source of the current trends in international affairs. Although many people use the internet for
work, school, or to gain information it also has become great for entertainment and
socializing. In the last decade the entertainment industry has greatly benefited from the
advancement in technology. It is easier for people in the industry to reach out to greater
number of people all over the world. Top musicians have been able to make an online
presence that makes it easier for them to sell their songs all over the world. In America, my
friends and I listen to many songs and many of them are often not sang by Americans. Songs
from Asian origin have influenced our preferences as well due to the large Asian population
and influence here in Los Angeles. When “Gangnam Style”, a Korean song debuted in 2012,
the video went viral on YouTube. The song drew attention of people all over the world and
within a short time it had more than 668 million views. During this time my siblings and
friends could not stop dancing to the song and it soon became one of our favorites. After the
success of Gangnam Style I noticed that Korean pop music has in the recent years attained a
great number of fans not only in America but also in most parts of the world. I personally
believe that a great development and somewhat of a catalyst to this growth is the emergence
and use of vocaloids. A vocaloid is a singing voice synthesizer that allows people to
synthesize singing by typing in lyrics and putting them together with a melody. Even with all
of the rapid growth Asian pop culture still only occupies a niche in the American market, but
