Should Teachers Carry Guns in Schools
1. TOPIC PROPOSAL
The issue of whether teachers should be allowed to have firearms in school or not has
attracted a significant debate in the United States. Researchers and education analysts have
been developing differing perspectives on the issue; therefore, this forms the base of
discussion in this paper. In conducting this research, I will use a research of collecting a wide
range of information from different authors, and columnists. The research will incorporate
both formal and informal research styles as some context of the topic will be presented in first
person. The arguments from other authors will be vital in establishing a rebuttal and response
to ensure that a clear debate is achieved.
The research topic will be “Should Teachers Carry Guns in Schools?” The topic is in
a question format creating for one to take side either for or against the topic. I will argue that
teachers should not carry guns in schools. The choice of this topic raises its foundation from
the issue of the bill to permit every teacher to have guns in the United States. Various

individuals, ranging from politicians to security analysts, have expressed their opinions. It is
from such differing ideas that I decided to conduct a research on the topic.
As mentioned earlier, the tentative thesis for this research is teachers should not carry
guns in schools. To address the topic explicitly the following research questions will form
part of the research; What is the function of a gun in a teaching profession? Are there laws
that govern education morals and ethics? The research will not have a definite outline, but the
data will be collected through a session of interview from a few teachers and this information
will be analyzed and used to draw a conclusion. The entire research will take one week for
completion and presentation.
