Should Minimum Wage Be Raised?
A pay raise means that an employee will be making more money and it is usually a good
thing. For those that make a decent living and are able to pay off all of their debts and have
additional money left over, a raise means that they will have more disposable income.
Unfortunately there are those that work full-time and have very little to show for it. These people
are probably making minimum wage or close to it. It is very hard to make ends meet on $7.25 an
hour, so some government officials are suggesting that the federal minimum wage be raised to
$10.10. Raising minimum wage would be the easiest way of getting low income families on their
feet faster, right? Wrong. In my opinion, raising minimum wage to fix the poverty problem is
like putting a Band-Aid on a wound that needs stitches, it is a very short-term fix.
