Should HP Envy the ASUS?
I had my HP Envy computer for a week tops, when I dropped it. It fell out of the laptop
compartment from my backpack that was left unzipped. Luckily, I had purchased the insurance
for the device and didn’t have to pay for the total amount of damage that occurred. I was offered
to either get a replacement, or an exchange for a product of equal or less value. I wanted to
exchange for a device with a smaller price tag. The criteria I evaluated in deciding what
computer to purchase all revolved around the productivity of the computer. There needs to be
enough RAM to handle my multi-tasking. I need to have plenty of storage due to my file
hoarding habits. I also need the computer to keep up with the software I am running which
requires a good graphics card. This semester I have purchased both the HP Envy X360 and the
ASUS Q524UQ BI7T20. I have since, stuck with the ASUS because of its RAM, storage, battery
and the graphics card.
The ASUS has RAM that is bountiful. This was the first difference to consider between
these two devices. A computer’s RAM, is it’s random access memory. This describes how much
multitasking the device is capable of. This is measured in gigabytes, showing how much
information can be processed at once. For example, having several tabs open in a browser
combined with other programs running in the background, could freeze devices that have an

inadequate quantity of R.A.M. Adequate multitasking capabilities, for me personally, lies at least
eight gigabytes. The HP Envy computer has more than enough random access memory at sixteen
gigs; yet, the ASUS has twelve gigabytes which is more than enough for my essentials. It was
hardly a sacrifice, giving up four gigs, in order to have a better graphics card and more storage.
I choose the ASUS also because it has double the quantity of storage compared to the
HP. A computer’s storage is the device’s long-term memory. Both of these devices use a hard
disk drive for storage. Programs themselves and files alike are going to be stored here. One
terabyte is a lot of storage, two may seem over the top; however, I decided that two made sense
for me. Having more storage balanced out the loss of RAM from switching devices. I intend to
major in engineering. As an engineering student, I am going to be required to have several
