Assignment #2 – Memory
Short-Term Memory (STM) is responsible for temporary storage of information.
Basically it holds “in the moment” information or, in other words, information that we are
thinking about at any moment in time. We store short-term memories by collecting information
through our five senses and then temporarily stashing it in our sensory registers. Not everything
we see, touch, hear, smell, or taste is stored in our registers, instead, much like a spotlight, our
brain narrows its focus on certain pieces information. Our registers then take in the information
and store it for a very short amount of time before the memories decay.
Although our STM is very “short-term” there are ways of holding the information for a
bit longer than usual. For example, “chunking” numbers, letters, and other data into groups
