Abstract
Sexually transmitted diseases have plagued the world for many years but we now have the
means to prevent them and protect ourselves against such illness and suffering from these
diseases as well as the information on how it is contracted and how to prevent it. In this
paper I will be discussing venereal syphilis which can cause a great deal of damage to the
human body and cause a great deal of pain further along in the disease. Venereal syphilis,
which is cause by the Treponema pallidum organism, has several stages that it goes
through which is a type of alarm in our body which should notify an infected person of the
specified infection. There are also specifics parts of the country in which venereal syphilis
in more common than areas of the United States. This paper will discuss the process of
venereal syphilis and how to protect ourselves and loved ones from this disease as well as
protection from sexually transmitted diseases in general.

Venereal Syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease caused by the Treponema pallidum
organism, is a bacterial infection and also one of the smallest prokaryotic genomes which
can manifest through the body causing severe illness or even death. (Frase, et. al., 1998)
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease that is introduced into three stages and if this
disease is not caught early enough in it’s stages it can cause damage to the inner organs
including heart damage and it could potentially lead to death if left untreated. This disease
can be transmitted from one partner to another through anal sex, vaginal sex and even oral
sex and can present in any of those specified regions including the penis, mouth, lips,
and/or anus.
Venereal Syphilis presents in four stages; Primary Stage, Secondary Stage, Latent and
Tertiary Stage. The primary stage of syphilis begins with lesions on any part of the body
but in venereal syphilis it typically presents in the vagina, mouth, anus, or on the penis.
These lesions can present as one single spot or multiple lesions throughout the body and
may look like a small blister to a large mess of sores inside and surround the outside of the
specified areas. These lesions are not typically painful in this first stage and appear as
round firm spots which are not always noticeable and can last three to six weeks until they
