For this paper I have decided to research sex addiction. Sex addiction was the topic that I
knew the least about, and that was only briefly mentioned in the book. Sex addiction is referred
to as, “A condition in which an individual cannot manage their sexual behavior. Persistent sexual
thoughts affect their ability to work, maintain relationships, and fulfil their daily activities”
(Legg, 2017). A sex addict also might have many presenting behaviors, these include,
“Compulsive masturbation, persistent use of pornography, exhibitionism (extravagant behavior
intended to attract attention), voyeurism (watching others during intercourse or pleasurable acts),
extreme acts of lewd sex, and failure to resist sexual impulses (Legg, 2017). An individual
addicted to sex allows this addiction to overtake their life, as many addictions do.
There are many challenges to helping the addicted client. Many clients will not admit that
their sex life is unhealthy. There is also the challenge of defining what a healthy sex life looks
