Setting in Kelly Cherry’s “Alzheimer’s”
It can sometimes be difficult when dealing with a family member whose memory is
deteriorating. In the beginning of the poem we are introduced to the character as a “crazy old
man” with Alzheimer’s standing at the door. Alzheimer’s can be defined as mental deterioration
in which affects one’s memory and behavior. Kelly Cherry has given us a glimpse of the effect
that the Alzheimer’s disease can have on one’s memory through her poem. I relate to the speaker
