Victoria Oilfield Equipment is a U.S. based company that supplies drilling equipment for
the oil and gas industry headquartered in Houston, Texas. The company has been in business
for over 25 years with prominent business in Texas and Louisiana. Outside of the U.S. the
company also has significant business in Latin American countries as well. The organization is
looking to take the next step to another international location, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. With this
new start up, Victoria Oilfield Equipment is looking for a well qualified manager to run this
facility. The manager will face a number of challenges, i.e. personnel factors, political factors,
and establishing workplace safety parameters. The goal will be to develop a team and become
well established in the new international development.
There are three candidates who are being considered for the manager position. Each
candidate possesses different qualifications that would potentially make them a great fit for the
position. Candidate number one is Henry Smith who possesses a great deal of education,
experience, and knowledge of organization. Smith also was a member of the Army for three
years which may suggest discipline and he would be able to be an effective leader. One more
important factor to point out is his reputation with the organization. It’s been rumored that he
may one day become president of the company which speaks highly regarding his dedication
and work ethic (Nkomo, Fottler, McAfee, 2011). Having him relocate will optimize his
experience and allow him the ability to cultivate a productive team.
Candidate number two is Juan Lopez. Lopez has 21 years of experience with the
organization so there’s no doubt that he would be a great candidate especially since he has
worked his way up in several offices in Latin America and also spent two years in company
headquarters planning operations. He has the desired background to manage a facility and
