On a scale of 1 to 10 rate Mr. Sullivan’s teaching. (1– represents Poor teaching 10 –
represents Great teaching).
I would rate his teaching at a 4. I’m going to give him credit for engaging the students but
deduct points for the details he taught about. Mr. Sullivan is teaching about the ballistics of
grape shot and mimie balls and using time for show n tell. I love the idea that he has
brought a piece of history to his class, but when his test is focused the main causes, events,
and consequences of the Civil War there is an issue. Cool fun fact about a Confederate raid
from Canada but his class is eleventh grade US history. I love the idea of incorporating the
math into social studies but these are eleventh grade students. If they can’t count money
and use basic math we have another issue on our hands. It was a waste of time that could
have focused the lesson on much more relevant information. Mr. Sullivan has gone on for
weeks about the Civil War. Time is precious and spending several weeks on one unit can
really put a damper on other lessons in History. If he is spending that much time on the
Civil War I’m sure he has left out much more History in previous or continuous chapters.

Mr. Sullivan’s approach is great. He knows how to engage and capture the students ability
to think. Mr. Sullivan could leave out certain details for example math lessons, the time he
uses reviewing songs and foibles, and even the lesson on Canadian history. He needs to
