Directions: Within the folder labeled “Lab Report 1” are 5 journal articles and an excel data sheet. You
will use these articles and the data provided to answer the following questions pertaining to the 3
assessments we have performed in the lab to date.
Functional Movement Screen:
1) Please calculate the total FMS score for all 5 participants.
2) O’Connor article:
a. In your own words, please summarize the authors’ primary findings as it relates to the
FMS.
b. In your own words, please summarize the authors’ primary findings as it relates to the
physical fitness test scores.
c. Given the high incidence of injury in basic combat training and officer candidate school
(OCS), provide at least 2 suggestions on how you feel these results can be used to
potentially mitigate injury risk in future training populations?
3) Pick one participant and provide a detailed explanation of how they performed on the FMS.
Below are some topics you may want to include.
a. How does their total score relate to the previously published injury-risk threshold?
b. Did they have any asymmetries on individual FMS tests?
c. Given this person’s results, please provide 2 exercises (e.g. corrective exercises,
stretches) that you can prescribe to potentially influence their results.
Y-Balance Test:
1) Please calculate YBT reach difference scores for all 5 participants.
2) Smith article:
a. In your own words, please summarize the authors’ primary findings as it relates to the
YBT.
b. Given the high incidence of injury in collegiate athletes, provide at least 2 suggestions on
how you feel these results can be used to potentially mitigate injury risk in future athletic
populations?
3) Pick one participant and provide a detailed explanation of how they performed on the YBT.
a. How do their scores relate to the previously published injury-risk threshold?
b. Did their peak torque differ at the 3 test speeds (60, 180, and 300 degrees/sec)?
