Hello, my name is Muhammad Meeran, I was born in Pakistan on November 5, 1997. I didn’t
know much of Texas as a kid, but some cousins who had been living there for a few months described it
as being much larger then my city of Karachi and much more vibrant. When we first moved to the U.S
we lived Houston for roughly a year because we had many relatives that lived in the city and they helped
with the transition, which I think factored into me picking up English so quickly.
After a year we moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Baton Rouge was where I grew up for most
of my life, I transferred into the middle of 3rd grade, and was a relatively quiet student until my entry to
Highschool, and due to some circumstances, I ended up moving twice, which led me to go to 3 different
Highschool’s, and online school for a brief period.
I moved back to Houston after graduating to be closer to the rest of my family and after a gap
year, I started HCC during the summer semester of 2016. My major is Business with a concentration in
Economics and a minor in Political Affairs. This is currently my fifth semester at HCC and I will soon be
applying to 4-year universities to further pursue my education. My career goals are to refine my
knowledge of economics and political affairs, but currently I am more interested in gaining real world
experience in my field, such as when I recently attended a Model Arab League conference where I
participated on a team with other HCC students, but other opportunities I am looking for or Internships
geared in either a political or business aptitude. I did not vote in the last election because I cannot, but
obviously like almost every youth across the country I was actively reading all the information
concerning the candidates. Which really astounded me because of the intensity of the information that
was thrown at us, just everything was concerning the candidates, I mean even terrible events were put
to the side after the candidates gave their statement on the matter. That was one of the reason that
really got me into political studies and from there its just been a continuous interest of mine. Most
political satire shows were a regular staple of my life during the election, and Daily Show, Colbert
Report, Lahren were all daily things during the election, and still are just not as common.
My native countries political economy is far too confusing for me to comprehend any more and
one of the reasons for that is because unlike the party system here where there is only two majorities, in
