Summary
It has been learned that the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) (2004)
main purpose is to make free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities
throughout the nation and ensure special education and related services to those children and
those agencies provide early intervention, special education, and related services for more than
6.5 million eligible infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities. But what happens to
those students who have mild disabilities that go undetected in high school and who are unaware
of special services that are offered to help them succeed in college? It is discussed in the article
by Julia Silverman Schechter (2018) that many students who have mild levels of disability
(i.e. academic, social, and/ or psychological challenges) that are not as severe or profound as
those who received accommodations throughout grade school via IEP or 504 plan, struggle to
